Whether the causes of stress in employees are either personal, work-related or a mixture of

both, the effects on a company can be significant. Employees may not wish to tell

their employer about the underlying but potentially fixable problems causing the

stress/depression or anxiety. Commonly they may not have realised that they have

become ill and need treatment from their GP.

We can help your managers to manage employees with stress or mental health issues to achieve a positive outcome for all parties:

We can meet with the employee and give them time to speak confidentially about the problems that they have been having. These may include subjects that they feel uncomfortable speaking to their manager about such as problems with health, work, bereavements, relationships, debts, housing, police issues and alcohol or drugs. We will not break promised confidences to your company (unless under rare certain circumstances such as major safety issues, child protection, court orders etc). We can still give advice to your company about the way forward however whilst maintaining an individual’s confidentiality.
We can direct the employee to sources of support so that the problems can be resolved.
We can screen the employee for treatable mental illness such as depression and direct them to suitable treament via their GP, private insurance or company provisions. (E.g. medication, counselling, psychology or psychiatric care).
Suggestions for support at work, modifications or redeployment advice can be provided for your company to consider.
Return to work date opinions can be provided (e.g. within 1,3,6 months or longer) so that your company can make decisions on how long you can keep the job open for affected employees. Decisions can then be made about either waiting and meanwhile temporarily covering the work or redeployment, dismissal or retirement so the post can be re-appointed).
We can advise your company if there are any work-related or work-life balance issues that need addressing if the problem is to be effectively solved. As we often do not know the whole picture if work-related problems are reported, we do not seek to point blame. Rather we will report that the employee’s perception is that there are problems at work that need to be discussed and if accurate addressed.
