Once an employee is away from work for a month it can easily turn into several months and sometimes years. This doesn't need to happen as solutions are usually available. We have the experience gained from seeing several hundred cases per year to help. For the cost of one occupational health assessment we can advise the employer and employee of the way forward.
Independent opinion on fitness to return to work now and any modifications or support that could be of help with this.
Likely return to work date if not fit now. E.g. within one month, 3 months, 6 months or longer. This can then be used by the company to make decisions on how long they can keep the post open for the individual concerned. Decisions can then be made about either waiting and meanwhile temporarily covering the work or redeployment, dismissal or retirement so the post can be reallotted.
Disability Discrimination Act-Equality Act Whether the employee is suffering from a medical condition likely to be covered and therefore requiring job modifications or adjustments to be considered.
Adjustments, modifications or redeployment suggestions which might enable the employee to return to work as per the DDA. It is for the company to decide whether they can accommodate these suggestions.
Pension ill-health retirement certification - if return to work with or without adjustments is not possible in the long-term or an employee is terminally ill.
